Acupuncture has been proven to be effective at treating some of the causes preventing natural conception

It can be hard to think romantic thoughts when you are trying to time when you have sex. A woman naturally goes through a menstrual cycle and in an ideal situation you should be able to determine the optimum time to have sex. Regular, unprotected sex during these times should increase the chance of becoming pregnant. There are of course, no guarantees.

Before you start worrying that you cannot conceive naturally and before you consider going down the IVF route, there are other things to consider with natural conception and pregnancy.

What steps can we take to improve Natural Conception?

Weight – Believe it or not, being underweight or overweight can impact your chance of becoming pregnant.

Age – Women are born with all the eggs they are going to produce, while males continue to make sperm throughout most of their lives. However fertility rates in both males and females drops with age.

Diet and Lifestyle – Folic acid is recommended, but it is not the only thing to consider. If you are a smoker, or regularly around people who smoke means you are less likely to conceive than someone who isn’t.

Regulating periods and hormones – We may think we are healthy, but our periods including duration and quality may affect the body’s natural ability to conceive. Hormonal imbalances can also play a big part in natural conception. If your body is out of balance, you are less likely to conceive naturally or carry a child to full term.
